A short drive up-island from Victoria and you will encounter the
vast rain-forests and protected parks that are well-maintained and
available to hikers.
The Juan de Fuca Straight separates Victoria from Washington State
and many Whale Watching Tours peruse the water delighting tourists
as the giant mammals are often seen breaching the surface or leaping
into the air. Also found up-island is Nanaimo, home of the well-known
Nanaimo bar.

One block West is the beautiful Beacon Hill Park: full of flowers,
ponds, and even a Sunday afternoon cricket game.
A few blocks South is the Dallas Road Waterfront: a popular spot
for walks along the beach, flying kites, and lengthy gazes across
the Juan de Fuca Straight.
The Inner Harbour is an enjoyable 15 minute walk that takes you
either through the top of Beacon Hill park or along Victoria's tree-lined
streets.
